Not for Christmas!!! Damnation! My plans are foiled!!!
The future's pretty cool! Boom de yada, Boom de yada. :D
I tried to tell a friend of mine that such bots were a reality and they didn't believe me. Now I know it's Raytheon making them.
Sci Fi no longer.
After seeing the lifter robots in Alien and Aliens, I wondered how long it would take to get to that point when we'd see them for real.
So. Do you think they started calling the robot arms slave arms before or after they painted them black?
Personally, I'm not that impressed. The machines ability to demonstrate real world meaningful work is lacking. How often does one actually need to pass a large flat plank from a stack their left to a stack on their right in a hand-off fashion? I mean, we have cranes for moving entire stacks of such things at once. The pipes looked promising, but in the end, were just another artificial prop. I suspect there is already a real world solution for putting sections of heavy pipe together and it's probably a lot simpler and cheaper than robo-plumber. Just say'n.
Not so much for the extra power it gives you, but much more of long range precision work, I think these kind of robots would do great on space stations.
The arms are pretty freaky, but this is overall pretty amazing! More robots. MOAR!
