Yeah, TMonkey, I doubt anyone having gone through kindegarten thought that.
Beetles have two pairs of wings: elytra an alae- elytra are hard wings (forewings) and their purpose is to protect the alae (flying wings).
Like you can see in the video alae are neatly folded on the vein marks under elytra that need to be lifted so the flying wings can be used.
So what he referred to as a 'shell' technically *are* wings, but without a flying function.
