Um.. correct me if i' wrong, but it looked like there was a good chance whoever was driving the car died.

He lived, slipped out the passenger door (you can kinda see that if you look real close at the last moment). Probably wasn't wearing his seatbelt and that's what allowed him to get out fast enough.
