This video makes me think about how all the money spent on a certain war could have been used instead to have us well on our way to having people living on Mars. But whatevs, let’s just blow up some more sand.

So much bulls**t in so little time! If we find another planet, we'll exploit it like we're exploiting this one and everyone knows it!

Yeah, that was a little lengthy, rambling, and depressing, and ultimately terrible as PR.

Sagan may be a scientific genius, but he's something of an idiot when it comes to advertising. People don't want to hear "You'll probably be long dead when this awesome thing happens", even if it is true.

Politicians know this.
It's one of the reasons why, when they're agitating for funding for a long-term project that has smaller short-term costs, they always feel the need to mention your children and your children's children.

Most importantly, people aren't willing to pay for something long-term; especially when the commercial insults them. Which this did.
Multiple times.

I find it odd how some of you deride Sagan's narrative. What sort of narration would you approve of?

that was beutifal, hes right, we war and hate each other... but hopefully our descendants (the lord bless them) will not face the sociological and psycological barriers we face today; mabye we will someday be a peacefull species amongst the stars, coexsisting with each othe and other species while only refering to war in the most most dire of times. lets think obout this guys, this video was not sad or melancholy, but very hopefull to me.

I fixed it. Sorry about that. My laptop screen developed an awesome new horizontal white line across it last night and I got distracted.

It's Carl Sagan. He was a bright man but prone to "idiotic claptrap". In this case the juxtaposition with those "nice images" seemed to have a negative effect on me.

This video makes me sad, or better said melancholy. I realize it's supposed to be inspiring but...

Thought we humans are capable of many great things, I think we bring much more terror to our world than any other species, and we destory all that we love just out of hate and desire.
Also, at about 2:10, there is a shot of that alien-like-island, a post on this site some year or two ago.
