Cheeseburger in a Can – Revealed!

Cheeseburger in a Can – Revealed!
Cheeseburger in a Can – Revealed!

A little over one year ago, we broke the story on a bizarre feat of German engineering – Cheeseburger in a Can. After much debate over the actual appearance and palitability as described in the catalog, our loyal European reader Nika offered to hunt down the elusive hiker’s meal and answer all of our burning questions. These are her discoveries.

Um, twan, you can't swallow something that is attatched to something.

Have you ever swallowed a chicken-breast while it was attatched to the chicken?

Oh dear god, please tell me you didn't swallow that,
if you did this leads me to the the conlusion that you's swallow anything,
which would lead to a predictable, pervy and insulting question.
    answer in pm please :D

Since so many people seem to be commenting on this particular post I thought a little investigation was in order along the lines of "What other strange/average food that one normally wouldn't think would come in a can is encapsulated in such a delectable fashion?"

Eh voila! I give you the preliminary result:

    http://is.gd/SuEl

The burger tried by Nika and her partner in crime even makes an honorary appearance. Bravo.

Now I won't be volunteering, with the same gusto as demonstrated by Nika, to pick up and document the eating of any of these delicacies (I've survive on a strict diet of ramen noodles and flies caught with chopsticks) but I invite any of the braver DYOGers and Videofantastic-ites (or Forum-ers) to do the honors.

Once more unto the breach dear friends, once more.

I think that DYOG shirt is what makes the difference.

Judging by the comments on some other sites, not everyone enjoys photos of people spitting out food. I had no clue such people exist.

Yes yes, I know I don't go to the forums often. I hardly have time for DYOG & VF.

However, what has surprised me is this...when we interact with people on line we form visual images of them which are generally ninety degrees out of phase...however, you look just like I thought you would look...and that's just odd...not that you look odd...that you actually look like I imagined you would...how often do you think that happens just from reading posts?

I know morhkt, I know. I feel physical pain every time I look at that photo.

And just to repeat once more: it smells exactly as it looks, and it tastes ten times worse than smell and look combined.
It's like some mathematical equation of foulness.

I think it's safe to say that if you're trekking and have a choice between this and berries that have laxative effect - go with the berries.

:O It exists the myth is busted and why NIKA did you eat it (or at least try it)? It looked disgusting did it smell better then it looked?
You are a brave person to eat something that looks worse than a cheese burger sitting out for 1 week and also being sat on all that time. I am glad I will never experience that. Also I think that if you’re trekking I think a lot of things taste better like the burger.

I quote from the manufacturer's webpage:

"The cheeseburger, which is marketed under the Trek‘n Eat label, guarantees unrestricted enjoyment in the mountains and in other extreme environments. People in the wilderness who rely on the experience of an expedition food specialist such as Trek‘n Eat in preparing their meals have more of life: more enjoyment, less weight to carry, and more time for doing other things. The canned burger has a shelf life of twelve months without requiring refrigeration."

Wow, they almost had me fooled.

Like the inimitable pogo stick (a hot dog that has been wrapped in cornbread batter and deep fried) there are some things that nature itself cries out against.

I'm interested to know what other delicacies-in-a-can come from this manufacturer.

To quote the Shamwow Guy: "It's from Germany and you know the Germans always make good stuff!"
