This is Freakin' sweet!
I like how you can play with the pieces of Youtube too.
Its actually a pretty sick ad cuz it seems to be so realistic at the end..=D
Oh brother, that's what I get for getting close to falling asleep as I type this... a long winded rambling post. LOL
You're right, I don't picture my Mom enjoying Resident Evil or Guitar Hero et al.
However, she's in her 60's and really enjoys the Nintendo product. I got her hooked way back on the original NES with Super Mario. But actually, our family was into video games goes WAY back. We had a Pong system, then the Intellivision, then a Commodore Vic20. I got them hooked on the NES with Super Mario Bros back in the late 80's and they've bought every Nintendo console since.
So why is it kicking butt? Well, the whole Wii Fit thing aside, it's like this.
Fanboys are after one thing, to be the biggest badass gamer out there. So they talk smack to sound tougher, they play countless hours of games to try to master every nuace of the game. Then they spend more time talking smack and making fun of new players who 'suck' at those same games (in their narrow opinions). They save up money, stand in line to be first to purchase the latest and greatest to try to build up their self-inflated egos and continue the above cycle all over again. (And I paraphrase, but you get the idea.) Oh yeah, and they make fun of casual, 'non hardcore' types of games.
But that demographic is small. The Wii and the NES, SNES and N64 before it (Gamecube was a flop) kicked butt because they cater to the casual 'light' gamer. Who make up the bulk of casual gamers? Baby Boomers! Baby Boomers love video games too, believe it or not. But NOT the type that take 100's of hours to master, they're into something they can pick up and have fun playing in just a short while. Simple and fun.
But here's the other kicker... which of the two demographics mentioned have more disposable income? Baby Boomers again. So while all the fanboys out there are saving their paycheques or begging for cash from Mom and Dad, the Baby Boomers already have enough cash. For the typical fanboy, a game system is a major purchase. For a Baby Boomer, it's a purchase done on a whim, kind of like buying that package of gum in the checkout lane. They have the cash, they've heard fun things about it and so the next time they walk by the electronics department the conversation goes like this. Hey, there's that Wii that we played over at John and Susan's place last week. Let's pick one up and grab a couple of games. That was fun!
The final reason that the Wii kicks butt? It makes for a GREAT social gathering type of console. Guitar Hero's one of those types of games that gets people together to play. But it's an intimidating game and doesn't appeal to the masses. The Wii on the other hand does. Who can beat trying to swing at a tennis ball, but not using your thumbs but your whole body? How about swinging your lightsaber like it was the real deal? Heck, THAT's the cat's meow right there! When I first heard about the Wii's controlers, I started looking forward to the first Star Wars game JUST so I could actually swing a lightsaber around.
Now... about that disposable income... any body spot me about $300?
I have own a wii for a few months and Super Smash Bros Brawl is one of the best games I've played. but when most people think about nintendo it kinda stereotypes it into wii fit and brain games. Most of the games are relaxed and family friendly. But I can't see my mom enjoying guitar hero III or resident evil 4. I actuily wonder why it out sells the Xbox and PS3 because all the fanboys, even game informer gave nintendo a D+ at E3.
funny page. also, here's a tip for anyone who likes "real" games, with a real goal and dislikes games with no goal other than training your brain or balance or an expensive tamagochi like nintendogs, don't buy wii. there are no good games except for wario and super smash bros. brawl coming for the next 2 years. i have a wii and haven't bought a game in a long time, there just isn't anything that makes sense available. i'm not looking down on the wii itself, in fact, it is a great console. I only blame nintendo for not doing anything at the moment.
Haha, I was wondering why the link went to the actual youtube page and why I couldn't rate or comment, but I wasn't expecting that, haha. Pretty sweet.
Yeah, I own a Wii and I love it. Wii Fit, Sports, Play, Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Link's Crossbow Training (with Zapper) and Force Unleashed are some awesome games for the wii. Plus I can't wait till next year with the Wii Motion Plus. Wii is awesome, and I hate it when fanboys or actual sony or microsoft executives say that the wii is actually in a different competition than them. Bologna. If Wii isn't in the console race, then why are both PS3 and XBox 360 starting to replicate the Wii? To me, it sounds like people are just mad that the Wii is kicking so much butt.
But that's enough of a rant for today, haha.
Very cool and fun video and page. It's one of those 'I wonder how they did that' type of pages.
I'm looking forward to getting a Wii, myself. I've got a PS2, but really, I've been finding myself having to look very hard for some 'fun for all' types of games. There's some very cool one player games and some great sports titles, but the XBox and PS2 seriously lack when it comes to titles that a family can play together. It's disappointing really. Nintendo's really had a corner in that market for a long time and have gotten VERY good at it. Is it any wonder the Wii is outselling the PS3 and Xbox 360 combined almost 3 to 1?
I think those so-called hard core 'gamers' (I like to call them thumb wigglers) are missing the point when they start spouting off in favour of the gaming experience of either the XBox or PS3 over the Wii. The fact is, video games are designed for fun and entertainment. For a while, that got lost in the pursuit of 'bigger and better and faster video and sound.' Wii brought the fun back and Nintendo's set the new bar.
I wonder how many thumb wigglers are going to flame me. LOL
Now that is just extraordinary, I wonder how that do that.
just in case anyone didn't notice, you can click and drag things to move it
That is fantastic.
I dunno why TM, but I have a problem imagining you hopping with WiiFit.
I really enjoy Wii and WiiFit. I wouldn't waste my money on an xbox or playstation, even though they are visually stunning. The interactivity of the wii makes it more fun. Everyone can use it and enjoy themselves.
