The Japanese have no respect for implosions.
categories: Geeky, Videos

Kajima Corporation has developed a new method to demolish tall buildings. They replace the pillars at ground level with computer-controlled metal columns. A crew then demolishes the entire floor by hand, leaving the structure resting on the mechanical pillars, which are then lowered until the next floor is at ground level. They repeat this operation until they get rid of all the floors.

While I agree that taking that bad boy down in one serious pwnage implosion would be pretty fun for the 3.3 seconds it might take, I have to agree with cynnicism's assessment - technically speaking it's quite a feat and very impressive engineerically (my new word) speaking.

P.S. Nice new look chewbaka - wonder what Admin thinks? Beware lighting bolts from above in the form of images of Chewy in ballet tutu.

as an engineer, i say that while explosions/ implosions are fun, this is way cooler. srsly, "what'd you do yesterday ted?" "oh you know, the usual, played jenga with a skyscraper, took that puppy down one floor at a time from teh bottom up. 300 floor jacks, thats how" so much more technical fun there. it's like playing a super hard video game but for reals!

That doesn't look nearly as fun as blowing things up.

...that was quite boring -- I have to agree with implosions being cooler.

Seems like if even one of those jams up the whole building is liable to becoming crooked and tipping over. I'd stick with implosions. They're cooler anyway.

Seems pretty smart to me, although I was expecting some funny japanese movie, not a sped up version of a building sinking foot at a time =/
