CERN switched on the LHC yesterday (September 10th, 2008) at 10:28 AM local time, and to prove to all those wackos that a black hole isn’t going to form and suck in the planet, they’ve setup some webcams so people can watch what’s going on in the facility.

    They didnt actually collide particles on the 10th anyways. IT was just a test sending the beams through one at a time, clockwise and counter clockwise.

    When the light started blinking, for me, it was less of "oh God, we're screwed!" and more "oh goody, I happened to tune in right before something interesting happened!"

    Oh for the love of god I live by the one thats on Long Island and we have yet to see a black hole.

    I remember my mom saying the same idiots were complaining about black holes when it was built and many years later I'm still fudging here with the rest of New York.

    Its all a floust people. Granted the one on Long Island isn't as big but still, no black hole

    Given that I know (only just, but nonetheless still) enough about physics for to have earlier explained to people afraid of the LHC why it was harmless, I didn't fall for this one.

    But I still thought it was hilarious.

    (I also thought it was amusing there'd be a webcam aimed at the LHC parking lot. Woo PARKING LOTS! Exiting!)

    Lol. I was watching, then I saw the red lights. I was like, "hey wait, aren't lights bad?" Then I saw the camera go fuzzy for a second, then the small black hole, then I freaked out. Then, Once I noticed it was supposed to be a black hole, I started laughing at the joke. That's cause the black hole would grow much, much faster than that.
