This kid needs some serious counseling and more parental involvement in his life, otherwise he'll just turn into a future-less street thug.
Let's see... in American Society that would be 15 years in prison. But I feel bad for him even if he 'likes to do bad things'.
-_- I feel bad for the kid. He is 7 years old, this is not his fault. had he been raised properly it wouldn't have happened. Of course, now that it has happened, he deserves to be punished fairly to prevent it from happening again.

Grandma is wrong though...she has custody and so she has the right to spank him. The stupid officer is being sickly sweet to him as well. Kindness is wonderful, and most of the time that's what kids need, kindness and understanding, but there are certain occasions, this being one, that a tongue lashing and behind smacking are what's required.
I think grandma caught the mere core of the problem by saying that she would whip his behind if she wouldn't go to jail for it. I'm happy I don't live in a country where your kid steals a car, makes thousands of $ of damage and endangers lives just 'cause it's fun to do bad things'- and you can't flip him over your knees and smack his stupid ass.
He doesn't need counseling , he needs some good fat butt kicking and two weeks with no tv, computer and candy.
Oh, and there's another reason why automatic cars SUCK.

This is exactly why people should have to have a license to have children. That is a direct result of bad parenting or total lack of it. What the f**k people? Seriously. OMG kids like that should be put to sleep. If he already has that mindset at that age there is no turning him back. He's a lost cause.
Loyed, if you've been paying attention to the news recently (specifically out of Winnipeg) there's a HUGE problem with kids stealing cars here. They don't do it for profit, they do it for joyriding. In the last 3 years, it's escalated from 'just' joyriding for transportation to using the stolen vehicles as weapons. There are many stories of them putting bricks on the accelerator and sending the cars down back lanes. More recently, they've been getting brazen enough to seek out confrontations with the police just to get into a police chase. In a recent case, joyriding teens in a stolen Avalanche were doing 130kph in a 60 zone, T-boned a cab killing the driver instantly and sending the passenger to hospital for months. Two of the accused laughed about it both at the scene and then later when interviewed by police. This type of mindset by our criminal youth is just plain scary. Even scarier that it starts younger and younger.
