that was pretty cool but i bet those ants are pissed. the bearded dude is going to wake up one morning with a bunch of ants at his door going "hey man, your turn". but since ants don't have cement trucks, it's probably gonna have to be some of that fungus.

It'd be interesting to see them do a cast like that to a Gopher colony. Those things can stretch hundreds of meters in the prairies.
the reason ants can create a perfectly functioning, single-organism like society is that its parts have no individual will of their own. They know their part, and nothing else.
Humans are much too free-spirited for that kind of robotiscism.
this is cool! and while its sad that a lot of the ants probably did die, it was so that we could learn about the things they do, and see if we could apply them to human life. truly amazing.
I think this is pretty amazing. I honestly have to that I believe ants are one of the smartest species, aside from humans.
It's the biggest ant colony in the world that was
discovered.
And as everything else we learned from animals it will serve its purpose.
Watch them do further research and find it it was THE biggest ant colony in the world, and they just ruined it.
Social insects are especially amazing, and we'll never fully understand all it takes for that kind of society to function perfectly like one organism.
I'm sure that scientist are very careful as which species they choose, and they won't interfere with the balance of the ecosystem.
When rebelling against the animal violence, choosing the battles is a skill you have to learn.
i wouldn't worry too much about the ants... there are plenty of others, and given how researchers usually go about their business they probably did something to drive them out of the colony first... or given the fact that its the middle of a farm field, the ants had already moved on to some other place with more trees...
anyway, what they found is AMAZING the structure involved was enormous! i wonder if they were able to find a way to transport the colony (in pieces perhaps?) to a place where they could put it on display....
Wow it's cool what they found, but it sucks they had to genocide the ants to look at it.

Oh my god that is terrible! they completelydestroyed the whole colony! I think they will find it WAS a wonder of the world... until they destroyed it with cement!
