Grim Rea-purr

Oscar the cat, named after the delicious weiner, lives at the dementia unit at the Steere House Nursing And Rehabilitation Centre in Rhode Island, and he seems to have the uncanny ability to predict the death of the residents to within four hours. When someone is going to die, Oscar snuggles up on their bed with them. Obviously there is a logical explanation for this - Oscar is killing the patients.

There is a perfectly sensible explanation. Oscar likes lying on a bed and quite likes the proximity of a human as long as the human is unmoving. What he doesn't like is having his sleep disturbed or being petted. Somebody who is dying is unlikely to do either. So he chooses comatose humans to sleep near.

noone else going to bite on thepara's blatant silly remark? i'm pretty sure of two things: one, if the patient is dying, they probably dont care about being allergic to cats they care about being dead, and/or two: maybe the cat really only likes to find people it knows are allergic to it, and weak, and he cuddles up next to them just to watch them slowly suffocate. sweet.

I am so goddamn sick of hearing about this cat. He's on the television news, he's all over Reddit, Digg and Fark, heard some idiot DJ babbling about him on the radio... it just never stops.

It's just a house cat, people. I swear to God, it's just a house cat. Please calm down, stop flinging poo and try to focus. Try to pay attention to things that matter; not some mildly-interesting house cat at an old folks' home.

i think the cat can sense when death is near, but has anyone thought that the patients see oscar and go well it looks like im about to die, and so they kick the bucket? maybe its a phycological thing in the patients themselves?

He is sucking their souls like all cats have done for generations of time. He simply has to wait until they are weak enough not to fight him. Then he sneaks into their room and BAM...soul sucking begins.

I actually remember hearing a similar story a few years back. Personally I don't think that the cat's "predictions" are supernatural in nature. As it was stated by someone in the article, cats have extremely good senses, and can likely pick up oders or other signs that a person is dying. I know that I have often seen my cat pick up his head, and listen for a apparently distant sound that I could never hear.
    They're just... funny that way.
