Cordyceps Fungus

Cordyceps Fungus
Cordyceps Fungus

The Cordyceps fungus treats its insect hosts not unlike the Xenomorphs treat their hosts in the Alien films. Cordyceps however, at least has the decency to kill its host before bursting forth from its body.

Unless you were watching it on Discovery channel in the US then it was sigourney weaver. Actually I purchased the set of DVD's and was so excited that it wasn't her on them. I didn't like her narration and like David Attenborough so much better. He's a classic and his voice is so much easier to listen to.

Oh, you better believe it- I've seen a termite colony infested by Cordyceps, and to be honest it didn't look scary until I examined it under magnifying glass..
They infest only insects and other arthropods but as creepy as they look they are used in production of immunosuppressants used as after transplant therapy in humans..

Seriously, it's a clip from a Nature/NOVA/Eyewitness documentary or something. I remember watching it on PBS because I was trying to figure out if that was really John Cleese narrating. I'm pretty sure it's true.

"There are literally thousands of different types of Cordyceps Fungi, and each specializes in just one species..." Is there one for humans? Man, I hate it when things grow out of my head.
