People play mmos becuase they want to manifest themselves to people the way they would like to be in real life usually. or just because they're PERVERTS! but usually they play to pretend being someone they're not. For the ALS kid, this menas being someone who isn't dependant on a wheelchair.oxygen pack. I can't really say anything nika hasn't already though, so I'll just stop here.

Why? He's having fun. That's all that matters. Exercise? So he can be accepted by people? He doesn't care. Socialize? So He can do what? Be accepted by people? He doesn't care.
that fat kid who spends 55 hours should either pend it getting a job/ exercising/ or getting a social life.
This is why MMORPG's are useless to me.
That and the fact that you have to play 45 hours a week.

On the topic of avatars, I put in skully to express myself, not to demonstrate how I look. o.o
first of all: fat kid probably shouldn't be wasting 55+ hours a week playing online games.
second: we all agree disabled kid probably could pwn all of us in that starwars game because he's bound to have some sort of stephen hawkings like playing abilities
third: i am pretty cynical.
some of them looked scary like their creaters while others looked nothing like it i mean the bubble tea guy wow lol but its still really cool

Well there's a girl and her avatar is a black guy lol.
I think that's the point : their avatars represent how they WANNA look.. Which makes some of the people there suitable for therapy.. :P
The guy in the suit looked close to his avatar except the avatar looked more buff lol.
Read your comment again: you made it sound like this guy could be next Stephen Hawking if only he would reduce his time online and stick to books about duality of particles.. Remember, this is a media where a word or even a simple punctuation can cause something to acquire completely different meaning.. ;)
this is pretty interesting... although some looked more like their characters because they were dressed like them, wich they probably did on purpose. they were pretty funny though...

Well, Stephen Hawking was born with more than an average intelligence which allowed him to create the unique perception of the universe and present it to us... The fact that the other guy might also have ALS or some kind of MD doesn't automatically mean that he has the same brain capacity.. And the fact he's on the mechanical ventilation also tells me his respiratory muscles are too weak for him to breathe on his own..
So I say we let him have his 80 hours a week and go after the obese kid that has 55- he created his disability by himself..
I was glad to see that the mother of two only spent 6 hours a week on it. By contrast the handicapped man spend 80 hours a week! I know, you are saying..."but he's handicapped, what else does he have to do with his time?"...er, think Steven Hawking.
Except the Korean with piggy tailed avatar, they all chose ones that sorta look like them - only difference is that girls are slimmer and guys have bigger packs.. :P
Btw, this is a great idea-another one would be comparing real people with their chat room nicks. I'm willing to bet that anyone who goes by 'hotty19' doesn't even come close to that description.. ;)
